چکیده

Background Myocarditis subsumes a variety of entities, including diverse courses from complete healing to dilated cardiomyopathy with severe myocardial fibrosis. T1-mapping cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has the ability to quantify myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) as a surrogate of acute and chronic myocardial injury. Galectin-3 is an important mediator of fibrogenesis and contributes to adverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling. This study evaluated, if myocardial ECV expansion is linked to Galectin-3 levels in patients with myocarditis.

Chest pain and high troponin level without significant respiratory symptoms in young patients with COVID-19

Background: Of all patients infected with COVID-19, 95% have mild symptoms, but 5% may experience severe illness. There are reports of myocardial injury associated with the COVID19 infection in middle aged and old people with baseline cardiac conditions. Acute myocardial injury has been suggested as a marker for disease severity. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate between acute coronary synd...

Galectin-3 and cardiac function in survivors of acute myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND Galectin-3 is a biomarker associated with inflammation and fibrosis that predicts adverse outcome and relates to biomarkers of extracellular matrix turnover in patients with heart failure, particularly when left ventricular (LV) systolic function is preserved. Whether galectin-3 is related to LV remodeling after acute myocardial infarction is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS Circulatin...

Pharmacological inhibition of galectin-3 protects against hypertensive nephropathy.

Galectin-3 activation is involved in the pathogenesis of renal damage and fibrogenesis. Limited data are available to suggest that galectin-3-targeted intervention is a potential therapeutic candidate for the prevention of chronic kidney disease. Homozygous TGR(mREN)27 (REN2) rats develop severe high blood pressure (BP) and hypertensive end-organ damage, including nephropathy and heart failure....

ESTIMATION OF POTASSIUM, CALCIUM, AND MAGNESIUM IN BLOOD AND MYOCARDIAL TISSUE, AND DIAGNOSTIC IMPORTANCE OF URINARY MAGNESIUM EXCRETION IN EXPERIMENTALLY-INDUCED MYOCARDIAL INJURY

The results obtained in the present investigations point to a definite correlation between the onset of myocardial injury, electrocardiographic changes and biochemical changes. Changes in the electrocardiogram and elevated serum levels were paralleled by an increased excretion of magnesium in urine as early as one hour. Serum calcium and serum potassium levels did not show any significant ...

Features of Myocarditis in Infants With Human Parechovirus Infection.

TO THE EDITOR—A recent report summarized clinical and laboratory features of human parechovirus (HPeV) genotype 3 infection in infants. The authors noted sepsis-like features with tachycardia in some patients, disproportionately elevated to the body temperature in 97.5% of patients, with cardiovascular compromise requiring fluid boluses in 63% and inotrope requirements in two patients [1]. Thir...
